Artist in Residency Program

Concept:

The residency’s purpose is to encourage all artists with special needs to participate in a unique creative process. This document will give a description of the Artist in Residence Program as a guide for what can be expected during the course of the program.

Objectives: to the best of their ability, students will:

learn about and understand some basic art terminology, what it means to be an artist and be exposed to art history.

Participants:

The program is designed for children with special needs and varying degrees of abilities to experience tactile hand-ons creating art in various forms and various media.

What students can expect:

An art experience inspired by a look into the Masters such as Vincent van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Michelangelo, to name a few. Students will view the work of these artists and then have a chance to explore their own creativity by making their own masterpieces.

Expression: students will learn that art can be a form of expressing their own thoughts and ideas. For our non-verbal students it will give them a visual voice.

Gallery Art Show: At the end of the program students will have the opportunity to showcase their art with a Gallery Art Show. Students will also receive a quality digital photographic image of their work produced by a professional photographer assigned to capture the event.
